In order to perform more than 1200 hours of flight predicted for CRUZEX 2018, aircraft and flight equipments have to be in conditions to fulfill the determined missions. In this aspect, the role played by the mechanic is fundamental: they are the responsible to assure the availability of the aerial means.
At the Fligth Equipment section, for example, militaries are responsible for upkeeping items like helmets, vests, masks and anti-gravity suits, and also survival kits and ejection seat parachutes.
The aircraft mechanics have to verify several aspects before each take-off and after each landing. “Even if there is no problem with the aircraft, we need to do the refuelling and restock the ammunition, so the maintenance work will always happen before and after the flight”, explains Sub-Officer Horlister. He is responsible for distributing the F-5M fighter aircraft for each flight, according to what is determined for the mission.
